PROFILE
I am a UK-based business journalist with experience in the newsroom and business desks of local, regional and daily newspapers.
After working on the business desk of the Yorkshire Post I left in late 2003 to become a freelance business writer and author. My first book, Beyond Governance: Creating Corporate Value through Performance, Conformance and Responsibility, was published by John Wiley in January 2005 and is co-authored with an academic and the CEO of a global software company.
The book focuses on the creation of sustainable corporate value through the adoption of Enterprise Governance, and the strategies needed to achieve better performance, conformance and corporate responsibility.
In addition to ongoing book related work, I write extensively on corporate responsibility, corporate governance, business strategy, finance issues and general business for magazines and newspapers including the Manchester Evening News, Yorkshire Post and Yorkshire Business Insider. I have written white papers, case studies and reports for organisations including Deloitte and the CODA Group.
Other work includes article and regional PR work for Business in the Community, the UK’s leading organisation for the promotion of responsible business practice. I also produce a newsletter and publicity material for a leading racehorse trainer and freelance for a Yorkshire-based PR firm with a number of blue-chip clients, for which I am responsible.
In addition to written work, I have acted as judge for regional business awards including the Northern Deloitte Fast 50 Technology Award, and the social reporting category of PWC’s Award for the Yorkshire Annual Report of the Year.
I am able to take commissions for a wide range of business writing including personal and corporate profiles, case studies, news articles, press releases, white papers, speeches, business features and books.
PREVIOUS ROLES
Previous reporting roles included news reporting, news and business feature writing, sub-editing and running of district offices and business newsdesks.
My role as Business Reporter for the Yorkshire Post included writing national and regional business news, interviewing and profiling senior business figures and contributing to the regular business columns in the paper.
I was responsible for generating my own news list and achieved a series of national and regional exclusives. Among my responsibilities was the Red Tape Burden campaign, launched to highlight the legislative burden on UK companies, personal finance issues, and reporting on the country’s stock markets.
I was also IT correspondent and responsible for following the progress of the region’s established and developing IT firms, as well as reporting on national sector trends.
Prior to my position on the Yorkshire Post, I was a reporter for both the York Evening Press and the Harrogate Advertiser group, where I achieved a number of national and regional exclusives.
